Crispy Air Fryer Tofu

This tofu recipe makes the tofu juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I love this spicy version. It's ready in just 15 minutes. So it's perfect if you want something hearty, plant-based, and super quick.

Ingredients
  

For the tofu:

  • 200 g firm tofu Optional: squeeze for at least 15 minutes, depending on the desired consistency.
  • 1 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice flour or cornstarch
  • Optional: some garlic powder or smoked paprika powder

For the sauce:

  • 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp syrup or sweetener of your choice
  • 2 tbsp water a little water for dilution, if necessary
  • 1 tsp Rice vinegar or lime juice
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 garlic clove finely chopped
  • chili or harissa to taste

Instructions
 

  • Optional: Press the tofu for about 15 minutes so that it can absorb the marinade better and become crispier. To do this, wrap the tofu in a kitchen towel or paper towel like a gift and place something heavy, such as a book, on top.
  • For the first marinade, mix tamari or soy sauce, sesame oil, rice flour, or cornstarch with a little garlic powder or smoked paprika powder.
  • Cut the tofu into cubes and toss it in the marinade.
  • Place the breaded tofu in the air fryer at 200°C for 15 minutes (until golden brown and crispy).
  • Meanwhile, you can prepare the second marinade. Simply mix all the ingredients for the sauce together and reduce slightly in a pan.
  • Then add the baked tofu to the pan and stir so that the tofu is coated with the marinade.
  • The crispy, juicy tofu is ready.
