*paid advertisement* E-mobility: I am curious and want to know what is behind the sustainability strategy “Road to better” of Ford. That’s why I went to Cologne at Ford’s invitation and took a closer look at the plant and Ford’s work. I was very impressed by what I found.
For this I would like to take a short break, so that you understand where I am coming from.
You should know that I have very little to do with cars so far and my enthusiasm in relation to the automotive industry is also very limited.
Since I live in Berlin, a car has not been relevant for me so far either. For me a car must fulfill exactly 3 things:
- take me from A to B
- hast to be reliable and long living
- give me a safe feeling
i.e. function, longevity/sustainability and safety are the most important criteria for me. As soon as I have a family, this will be my priority, unless my boyfriend then also wants to have a say (which I hardly assume), then something else might play a role :).
So I went to Cologne and had a closer look at Ford’s work there. I must say, I was very surprised how strongly my interest can be aroused, if something is done right, and especially with passion. Exactly this feeling was conveyed to me on site.
For example, did you know that we just have an insect decline of about 80% and very many insects worldwide are in an alarming state? I was no longer aware of the number and all the more shocked. Because insects are not only fascinating animals but also indispensable life artists.
- They form the food basis for many other animals
- They are among the most important pollinators
- They are indispensable for the remineralization of organic substances in the soil
- They regulate forestry and agriculture with
In the course of Ford’s global sustainability strategy, this factor plays a major role and Ford has given the plant site a really sustainable and healthy “MAKE-UP”. The “make-up” suits the “Cologne Electric Vehicle Center” very well. One shaved lawn was replaced by natural wildflower meadows and perennial beds, bird and bat boxes are now hanging on the trees and an insect hotel (built by prison inmates) is located on the new colorful lawn.
Especially the redesign of the green area is important for the ecological function and creates especially living and feeding spaces for insects as well as improved erosion control, surface infiltration and fine dust binding. The microclimate thus receives a very special upgrade.
The responsible environmental engineer Stefan Baumeister:
“”Sustainable planting is another pillar of the company’s sustainability initiatives – such as CO2-neutral production and conversion to electric vehicles.”
The employees are also allowed to plant and have been given a mini-garden directly on the Rhine for their artistic freedom and team spirit :).
Likewise, a lot has changed at the plant. New processes and modern machines save large amounts of energy. Higher energy efficiency and recycling management are absolute priorities in order to reduce emissions and conserve resources.
I was quite impressed by the fact that all the electricity and gas needed to run the vehicle production will be CO2 neutral in the future. Ford will achieve this by using 100% certified renewable electricity or biomethane for the production start of the new electric car in summer 2024.
I have to say, Ford has now strongly “influenced” me here. The E-Mustang drives as if by itself and meets all the criteria that are important to me. When the time comes and I want a car, the first place I’ll think of is FORD. Ford has convinced me of its sustainability strategy and e-mobility.
Have you had any experience with e-mobility, Ford or a brand you trust? I look forward to hearing from you.
