When you go to Greece and you expect olives and olive oil everywhere, you are totally right :). But more about this later.
Let’s have first a look on all these amazing sweet places on Crete.
My parents, my brother and I stayed in a hotel – Vantaris Palace – located near Rhethymno. The place is called Georgioupoli. What I love the most there are the beaches. They are perfect for a early morning barefoot run to train your food muscles.
If you would ask me for my favourite spots on Crete I would recommend you 2 amazing + 2 even more amazing places.
My four favorite places starting from top:
- The old town of Rhethymno and it’s narrow alleys
2. Chania and it’s harbour
3. Frangokastello and it’s beaches
4. Imbros Gorge and it’s 11 km long Canyon
When you manage to go there you can start with an early morning walk through the canyon followed by a little trip to Hora Sfakion and Frangokastello. Hora Sfakion is having cute little cafés while Frankokastello is a great place for swimming and good food. I can highly recommend having a break at Taverna Vitalis. Let’s see what they have ->
Kitchen on Crete
If you are a veggie-lover, what I assume you are, you’ll love it on Crete. There is just one thing you’ll have to probably deal with, everything is with EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL. This isn’t really the best living a hclf diet. But we are on holiday and other things will make it perfect right? If you don’t like greens taking an oil bath, you can gently ask for plain greens. The Cretan poeple are super friendly and hospitable.
Since we had a giant breakfast and dinner buffet at our hotel, we only had lunch “outside”. And usually I just went for a cucumber salad or greens plus fresh orange juice, because you get heaps of bread and fava bean hummus and for sure olives as a free pre-dish. For dessert follows a huge plate of grapes. Life is saved tho :). But there are plenty of vegan options too, as the following pictures of my buffet plates are showing.
Have you been on Crete already, knowing some cute little places which we should see? Would love hearing your experience!
