100h Yoga Teacher Training in Bali – my experience

Welcome to my yoga teacher training experience 🙂

Already the second time I had the chance to experience the special energy of a yoga teacher training. It is a unique happening and I take a lot of strength and new knowledge from the training. I look forward to learning new things and expanding my knowledge every time because even if you are a teacher (in any field), the most important thing is always to remain a student and to keep learning.

Requirements for Yoga Teacher Training

You don’t have to be able to do a handstand or splits to take yoga teacher training. Yoga is not about how flexible your body is, but your mind. It’s about accepting your body as it is at this moment. It doesn’t matter if you are in child’s play while everyone else is practicing crow.

A yoga teacher training is for those who want to deepen their practice and learn more about anatomy and philosophy, but most of all for those interested in personal development. Because in my view, that’s what a yoga teacher training is most about: how much you grow beyond yourself and develop.

Before a 100h YTT you need to do a 200h YTT, but Rishikesh YTT Center also offers that.

General conditions

The 100h Rishikesh Yoga Teacher Training with a focus on Hatha and Ashtanga took 14 days and was located near Ubud at Puri Saron Resort with a pool. Overnight accommodations, as well as a textbook and 3 vegetarian meals with vegan and gluten-free choices, are included. A private room is priced at $1450, a twin at $1175, and a triple at $1000. The room and meals aren’t the only things included. Other activities included in the price are:

– airport pickup

– a cooking session

– a Balinese massage

– Ubud tour

– traditional Balinese dance show

– excursion to the rice terraces

– one reflexology massage

– visit the temple of Tirtanbul

Programm of Yoga Teacher Training

Unlike my first yoga teacher training, this one was less spiritual. The focus was more on the anatomy, the asanas, and the alignment, which I find super. This taught me even more about the body and especially a lot about posture. Other content such as philosophy, pranayama, and teaching ethics, that is, how to teach a class best possible and what to consider, were discussed in the training. The schedule looked something like this.

This is how a typical day during the training looked like:

5:00 a.m. Wake up
6:00 Hatha Yoga (Asanas) & Mantra (sometimes Pranayama)
9:00 Breakfast
10:00 am Study time
12:15 Lunch14:00 Lessons in anatomy and philosophy
17:00 Ashtanga Yoga
19:00 Dinner
21:00 Sleep

Sunday we always had a free day.

Exam at Yoga Teacher Training

In the end, if everyone passes the exam, they receive a Yoga Alliance certificate, which is recognized everywhere.

Reasons for the Yoga Teacher Training

The main focus of the Rishikesh training is on a small and intimate teaching environment in order to take care of each student in a more individual and personal way. This is what I really felt. We had a yoga teacher, a doctor, and a mediator. The teachers and gurus were very attentive and responded individually to all needs.

I was able to learn so much new knowledge during this time because the teachers were not only very professional, but they taught us the content in a simple and easy-to-understand way. For example, we learned anatomy by ourselves and drew on our own bodies with a pencil. How cool is that? It was a lot of fun and I totally enjoyed learning new knowledge this way.

Another reason why I chose this training is that it comes from India and is hosted by Indian gurus. Since the yoga philosophy has its roots in India, it makes the training more authentic through the Indian teachers.
