What do you love most in October? Is it the autumnal mood, the bright colors of the leaves or maybe the pumpkin, which is so excellent in all dishes? Probably it’s all of these things together – at least that’s how I feel. Of course I especially love the culinary side of autumn. Then I start to eat only Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin Spice Donuts, Pumpkin Spice Muffins, Pumpkin Spice Cookie Dough or Pumpkin Pie. But did you know that the autumn months are the time when we women go into our “retreat”? This might sound a little strange at first, but in relation to our periods, we go through the four seasons with our cycle again and again. Autumn is the season of retreat. It is a month in which we prepare for winter and reflect on our rest. It is therefore very important for me to do everything that my body needs most in this premenstrual phase during the autumn phase of my cycle. So, I love slowing down, eating a lot of pumpkin and focussing on self care: here are my monthly favorites in October.

WHAT I’VE FOUND: FEEL GOOD IN WINTER CYCLE WITH NATRACARE
When I started to deal with period products, I realized how harmful many conventional products are for us. They often contain synthetic materials, perfume or sometimes even unpleasant chemicals – including dioxin. If we use these products for years, these chemicals also accumulate in our bodies.
That’s why I have now switched to Natracare. Natracare’s products are sustainable, ethical and fair, made from organic cotton and are therefore biodegradable. They are also free of synthetic materials, perfume and chemicals. Natracare was, by the way, the first brand in the field of organic period products (1989).
WHAT I’VE BOUGHT: INTERIOR GLAZE TEAK
Upcycling at its best: This interior glaze should win a beauty award in my eyes. It makes every old piece of wood shine in all its splendor. My dear friend and neighbor Hannah recommended the interior glaze and I am really happy about it. Only one thing is dangerous, it is addictive! Because I have started to paint everything with it that is possible!
WHAT I HAVE HEARD: “THE ICEMAN” – WIM HOF
Wim Hof, 60, also known as “The Iceman”, is the inventor of this method named after him. I have not yet tested his method, but I am very inspired. It should help to become happier, healthier and more efficient. The focus is on a specific breathing technique, meditation and ice bathing. Especially for frostbites like me his method is very helpful. You can listen to this podcast episode and also find some more on YouTube.
WHAT I HAVE CREATED: NEW RECIPES IN MY NEW KITCHEN
My kitchen is definitely one of my monthly favorites in October. It is not yet completely finished, but it already looks so great. Two months without a kitchen were definitely not easy for me. But that’s why I appreciate it all the more. I am especially grateful to Mark Pyczak from Hauptstadtküchen. Because he designed them for me. At first I wanted to do it all by myself, but now I’m glad that I left this task to the experts. With this super delicious pumpkin quinoa curry I have inaugurated my kitchen.
