Staying in Los Angeles felt like I finally found the vegan paradise. I actually didn’t know that Los Angeles is the Vegan Capital and also that Santa Monica is Baby Vegan Capital. Did you?
It would take ages to count all these vegan-friendly, fully vegan or even raw options here. So I will share my eco-friendly stay at allAirplanes aren’t considered to be eco-friendly but it might depend on how far you want to travel but choosing an energy-efficient plane is a great start. Flying coach is another way for making it a bit greener. There are also several options for eco-friendly places.
Why Hi USA Hostel
Hi USA is an international non-profit, “member organization founded on travel to foster a deeper understanding of people, places, and the world around”. The organization arranges great excursions to making your stay active, explorative and sociable. All monies made by this organization are reinvested into places and cultures for a more tolerant world.
I stayed at the Hostel Hi Los Angeles Santa Monica which is a certified green business and it’s surrounded by vegan-friendly cafés and juice bars. Just around the corner you can enjoy that beautiful beach, the sea and its sunset at Pierre Santa Monica. You can also rent a bike and cycle along the beach promenade to Venice Beach.
I especially liked the Green Footprints: Los Angeles.
Having Breakfast at Hi Santa Monica
Breakfast at the Hostel Hi Sana Monica is included and absolutely vegan-friendly. I actually had the same breakfast for all three days throughout my stay:
This is worth 500kcal and kept me full until lunch. Some people might find it weird to have orange juice instead of milk but it’s just a question of getting used to it. For variation you can also go for Toast and Peanut Butter.
Eating Green in Baby Vegan Capital
Eating green in Santa Monica is super easy, but as I already mentioned, counting all those places would take us a long long time. Here are my favourites that I want to recommend:
- Santa Monica Food Truck Lot
Santa Monica’s Food Trucks come every Tuesday night bringing there delicious cuisine. It’s not only the food which is great, but also the atmosphere and the place at the California Heritage Museum.
2. Beaming | Pure Organic Joy – Let Food be your medicine
Beaming is an organic Café and Restaurant with the mission to inspire and empower people to experience greater health, happiness and vitality through plant-based food. You can find Beaming in Santa Monica, Brentwood, West Hollywood, La Lolla Equinox and Del Mar.
They offer several juices, cookies, cakes, smoothie bowls, salads, Buddha bowls and wraps. I couldn’t try all but I tried a lot. I particularly loved the collard wraps and acai bowls.
If there is anything else which you would love to know or think that I should know, please drop me a line.
