A healthy apple pie made with only 5 ingredients – No sugar, animal milk, butter, or eggs.
If you’re looking for a super delicious apple pie, you absolutely have to try this one. This delicious recipe is suitable for kids, people with allergies, and conscious gourmets who pay attention to clean ingredients. That’s because the cake is vegan, low in calories and fat. Nevertheless, it tastes fruity and juicy. We have the apples and the date paste to thank for this. Because they provide a pleasant natural sweetness and the necessary juiciness.
For the delicious apple pie, we need only 5 vegetable ingredients. That means no eggs, butter, or cow’s milk in the recipe. But don’t worry, even though most of the typical foods are missing, you’ll still get a super fruity and moist result. So if you want to bake a delicious dessert for your family or friends, be sure to try this cake. After all, it’s suitable for both the little ones and the big ones. 🙂 Moreover, people with lactose intolerance can also easily distort the apple pie. Did you know that about 3/4 of the world’s population is lactose intolerant?
How is the pie sweetened?
This apple pie recipe is low in fat and is sweetened naturally. Therefore, it does not contain any artificial sweeteners. Honey, maple syrup, agave syrup, or rice syrup do not belong in the recipe either. You also don’t need a highly processed sugar alternative, like stevia, xylitol, or erythritol.
The sweetness of the apple pie comes from the apples and dates alone. Adding coconut milk, lemon juice, and cinnamon rounds out the flavor perfectly. At the same time, the cake gets more juiciness.
Please do not expect the cake to be particularly fluffy or the base dough to rise. To keep the ingredient list as short as possible, I did not use baking powder or baking soda. To spice up your apple pie, simply add ground almonds, date sugar, and vegetable fat. Vegetable cream or vegan vanilla ice cream also tastes great with it. So add whatever you’re in the mood for.
Apples as a life-prolonging remedy
The well-known pome fruit originated in Asia. There, apples were considered a remedy with a life-prolonging effect. They have been native to Europe for several years now. By the way, apples are the favorite fruit of the Germans. 🙂 This is a good thing, because who does not know the saying: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”? This saying fits perfectly because apples reduce the risk of many diseases.
For example:
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Asthma and other respiratory diseases
- diabetes mellitus
- Colon and lung cancer
The cancer-preventive effect can be attributed to the pectins and polyphenols contained in apples, such as quercetin. Furthermore, its secondary plant compounds have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Iodine in the apple core
By the way, the core is also valuable because it contains iodine. Our body needs this micronutrient for growth processes, nervous system development, and thus also for our brain. Furthermore, we need iodine for our bones.
Most people certainly know this micronutrient because it is an important component of thyroid hormones.
10,000 different apple varieties
In total, there are about 10,000 varieties of apples. Of those known to us, Braeburn apples are in first place with 21 mg/ 100 g, considering their vitamin C content. This vitamin is mainly found in the apple skin. So if you want to get a lot of vitamin C, just eat the peel along with it.
Typical processing options
In the following, I would like to introduce you to different variations for processing, depending on the apple variety:
- Boskoop is well suited for apple pie or baked apples.
- Braeburn is best distorted directly. In this way, no nutrients are lost through heating.
- Other apple varieties, such as Elstar, belong to the all-around talents. That means you can use them for any kind of preparation.
Regardless, apples are generally suitable for making compote, baked apples, mush, or apple juice.
New apple varieties can cause allergic reactions if they are not well tolerated. Older varieties, on the other hand, are well tolerated by most. These include: Jonathan, Boskoop, Kruger’s Dickstiel and Cox Orange.
