Crispy tofu with spicy sauce (air fryer style)
If you don’t like tofu, I won’t believe you until you’ve tried this recipe. With a few spices, two marinades, and an air fryer, this tofu becomes incredibly crispy and delicious. In my opinion, even the most ardent tofu skeptics will be convinced. By the way, the tofu cubes taste great on their own with eggplant, salad, in bowls, rice, or on pasta with tomato sauce. If you can think of any other ways to enjoy them, be sure to share them with us in the comments. I’m always happy to try out new ideas.

My daily superfood for longevity
I love tofu and eat it almost every day. It’s super healthy and always has a place in my fridge. If you want to read more about my longevity tips, check out the article: 11 Longevity Hacks. The 8th hack is tofu. 😉
Since I love trying new things, here’s a delicious spicy variation. What makes this recipe special is the crispy texture on the outside and the juiciness on the inside. Since my diet is very plant-based, I have eaten tofu prepared in many different ways. But this recipe offers a whole new taste experience. Be sure to try it. Then you’ll know what I mean. 🙂
Basically, all you have to do is cut up the tofu, squeeze out the excess water, mix all the ingredients together, bake until golden brown, and fry in the marinade.
Here you can find the video tutorial for crispy tofu from the air fryer.

Crispy Air Fryer Tofu
Ingredients
For the tofu:
- 200 g firm tofu Optional: squeeze for at least 15 minutes, depending on the desired consistency.
- 1 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
- 1 sesame oil
- 1 tbsp rice flour or cornstarch
- Optional: some garlic powder or smoked paprika powder
For the sauce:
- 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
- 1 tbsp syrup or sweetener of your choice
- 2 tbsp water a little water for dilution, if necessary
- 1 tsp Rice vinegar or lime juice
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 garlic clove finely chopped
- chili or harissa to taste
Instructions
- Optional: Press the tofu for about 15 minutes so that it can absorb the marinade better and become crispier. To do this, wrap the tofu in a kitchen towel or paper towel like a gift and place something heavy, such as a book, on top.
- For the first marinade, mix tamari or soy sauce, sesame oil, rice flour, or cornstarch with a little garlic powder or smoked paprika powder.
- Cut the tofu into cubes and toss it in the marinade.
- Place the breaded tofu in the air fryer at 200°C for 15 minutes (until golden brown and crispy).
- Meanwhile, you can prepare the second marinade. Simply mix all the ingredients for the sauce together and reduce slightly in a pan.
- Then add the baked tofu to the pan and stir so that the tofu is coated with the marinade.
- The crispy, juicy tofu is ready.
